Family Carers

Overview

This part-time Level 8 Certificate supports family carers to develop the knowledge and practical skills required to understand, assess, and respond effectively to challenging behaviour. The course explores the causes of challenging behaviour and introduces evidence-based, non-aversive approaches through the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model.

Participants will be supported to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans, while reflecting on ethical responsibility, self-awareness, and best practice in real-world care settings.

What you will learn

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise and understand the causes of challenging behaviour

  • Conduct comprehensive behaviour assessments

  • Design multi-component Positive Behaviour Support Plans

  • Implement, review, and evaluate behaviour support plans

  • Apply ethical, evidence-based, and non-aversive approaches to behaviour support
